"Education, Research and Industry in Biomedical Engineering" 『生物医学工程之教育,科研及工业应用』
Biomedical Engineering covers the application of any form of engineering
to the field of biology and medicine, from sub-cellular level to the scale of
hospital administration. Based on previous successes of BME Conferences
held in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002 & 2004, the Hong Kong Institution of
Engineers Biomedical Division is calling for the 3-day Conference,
facilitating latest information exchange among academic professionals and
community practitioners, as well as discussion forum to promote education,
research and industrial activities in Biomedical Engineering. The
Conference will give local and international biomedical engineers, scientists,
managers, young engineers and other healthcare professionals a great
opportunity to present their latest research achievements and exchange ideas
on modern advances in biomedical engineering, healthcare and technology.
The program will include a 2-day conference and a day technical visit.
生物医学工程涵盖生物学和医学各个领域,规模由细小如细胞之
研究,大至医院行政管理亦覆盖其中.以往在1992, 1994, 1996,
1998, 2002及2004 年举办的BME会议都相当成功,香港工程
师学会生物医学分部将於本年举办为期三天的会议,此会议将透
过生物医学工程界的学者与专业人士进行技术交流最新的资
讯,已达至促进及提升本地生物医学工程於教育,研究及工业应
用的水平.这会议将给予本地及国际级的生物医学工程师,科学
家,管理人, 年工程师及其他的医疗专业人士一个绝佳的机会
发表他们的研究成就及交换最新的医疗技术创见和想法.这为期
三天的会议将包括二天论坛及一天技术参观活动.
Keynote Speakers专题演讲者
Mr Richard K CLARK is a successful business development strategist, who in the last 15 years has established 3 companies associated with
technology discovery and innovation with specific interest medical technology and medical engineering. Richard's career spans over 25 years as a
chartered engineer in project management in diverse sectors including energy, environmental industry and most recently in medical engineering.
During this time he has acquired a broad base of practical and technical skills together with an ability to manage projects on time and within budget
with particular emphasis on technology transfer. He has published over 15 technical papers, acted as an international environmental consultant, been
co-chair and presented technical papers at numerous international conferences on advanced power generation and has several patents to his name.
Richard K CLARK先生是一个成功的商务发展策略家,他在最近的十五年间成立了三家以从事医学工程技术研究及创新的公司.他享有特许工程师的资格
超过二十五年,期间主要在能源,环境工业及近期在医学工程等领域从事项目管理,并拥有数个专利.在这期间,特别在技术转移方面,他累积丰富的

Mr Don GERHARDT has served healthcare industry in top-level positions including CEO of MedCenters Health Plan, Administrator at Michigan
State University Medical Facilities and Kaiser Permanente, Consultant for start-up healthcare companies, Officer for high tech healthcare data
company and international businesses, prior to joining LifeScience Alley as President & CEO. He is a faculty member at the University of St.
Thomas, a frequent speaker and contributing writer to articles and books. His education includes Concordia College, a Masters degree in Health
Administration from the University of Colorado, and postgraduate study in finance and statistics from Ohio State University. Don sits on the board
of two medical technology companies and several Advisory Boards, including the University of Minnesota's Biomedical Engineering Institute
Board, the Biomedical Commercialization Canada, Inc. Board and the Greater Minneapolis Convention and Visitors Association Board.

Mr Albert LI received his Bachelor of Engineering in National Cheng Kung University in 1984 and Master of Law in National Cheng Chi
University in 1989. Mr. Li has been employed by Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) since 1990, where he is accredited by FDA as
510(k) Accredited Person and QSR Inspection Accredited Person and designated by Taiwan Department of Health to conduct medical device GMP
inspection, QSD Review and Class II In Vitro Diagnostic Device premarket review. Mr. Li has been participating in GHTF SG 4 since 1999. He
was the Chairman of Asian Harmonization Working Party /Technical Committee in 2000~2005. He is a board member of Taiwanese Committee of
Clinical Laboratory Standards. He has played leadership role in Taiwan's medical device regulatory system revision since 1998, forming current
regulation and standards. He audits more than 140 medical device manufacturers in Taiwan, US, Japan and China.
李子伟先生1984在台湾国立成功大学考获得工程学士学位,及在1989年获得法律硕士学位.自1990年,李先生就任於台湾工业技术研究院(ITRI),任职
期间,美国食品药物管理署认可他为合资格的上市前通知书(510(k))认可检测人员,又他是台湾行政院卫生署指定可对医疗仪器进行检测是否符合药品生
产品质管制规范(GMP),输入医疗器材(QSD)审查,二级体外诊断医疗器材上市前鉴定的人员.1999至今,李先生参与全球医疗器材调和会第四研究委员
会.2005年至2005年期间,李先生任职亚洲医疗器材法规调和会的主席.他亦是台湾临床检验标准协会的董事会成员.自1998年起,李先生在对台湾
医疗装置的法规与标准制定担任领导的角色.他在台湾,美国,日本及中国等地稽核超过140家医疗器制造商.
Prof James O WEAR holds a B.S. (l959), M.S. (l960), and Ph.D. (l961) from the University of Arkansas. He is Managing Director, Little Rock
Employee Education Resource Center, Department of Veterans Affairs. There, he is responsible for training of engineering and safety personnel in
their 172 hospitals, which is about 10,000 employees. He was Professor, Biomedical Instrumentation Technology, College of Health Related
Professions, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 1972-2000. He is active in the American College of Clinical Engineering,
Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and the American Society of Healthcare Engineering. He is a Certified Clinical
Engineer and a Certified Health Care Safety Professional. He is a Fellow in the American Society of Healthcare Engineering, the American Institute
for Medical and Biological Engineering, etc.
James O WEAR教授在美国阿肯色州大学三年间考获理学学士学位(1959年),理学硕士学位(1960年)及博士学位(1961年).他现在是Little Rock Employee
Education Resource Center, Department of Veterans Affairs的董事总经理,并付责在172间医院(总职员约一万人),陪训工程及安全人员.1972至2000年间,
他在美国阿肯色州医科大学(University Arkansas for Medical Sciences) Biomedical Instrumentation Technology, College of Health Related Professions担任教授一
职.他是American College of Clinical Engineering,Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation 及美国医疗照护工程学会(American Society of
Healthcare Engineering)的活跃分子.他亦是认证的临床工程师及认证的医务卫生安全专家.而且他也是美国医疗照护工程学会(American Society of Healthcare
Engineering),美国医学与生物工程协会(American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering)等组织的成员.

2. Participants are encouraged to pay by cheques, if possible. Amount received will be imprinted. Cheques are subject to bank clearance.
3. Enrolment fee is not refundable unless HKPC is notified in writing of your withdrawal at least 5 working days before the BME2006 Conference
commences. A handling charge of HK$200 will also be levied.
4. An applicant may, subject on approval from HKPC, nominate a substitute to attend the course on his/her behalf.
